About
“So much more than sound†– starts here
Car Concepts was founded in 1983 by Rick and Robyn Goeller. Original location was at 5235 South State in Murray, Utah. A few years later, land and buildings were purchased as Car Concepts made the move to 3405 South State Street. This location became, for one store operation, the #1 outlet in America (volume wise). What started as an expeditor that serviced and sold to car dealers, insurance replacement, and boat dealers soon branched into retail sales.
Rick had previously owned and operated a company called Soundtrack. A business which started in 1970, the soundtrack sold 45’s, records, 4 track, 8 track and quad sound. Soundtrack also sold waterbeds and black light posters. The company grew rapidly and at one time had a center distribution center called Central Utah Distributing which served numerous wholesale accounts and also served retail stores in Utah and Idaho. Soundtrack not only sold car audio product, but also home stereo. It was one of Utah’s first Pioneer and Alpine dealers. The Soundtrack sold Technics, Advent, Bose, Pioneer, and Marantz to name just a few. We also had a service center that handled warranty work for over thirty brands. Soundtrack outgrew the expertise of its ownership and closed in 1983. This was very common in the 1970’s and 80’s. Soundtrack never did file bankruptcy; however it took years to pay off its debts. The lesson was learned. It should never be assumed multiple locations will run like the original location without the expertise to operate them.
Having always been self employed we went back to the drawing board, and as aforementioned opened Car Concepts. Back then Car Concepts had a simple mission statement “If you’re good enough they will come.†The thought being you do not need multiple locations to grow. Where were we? If you’re still with us the location was 3405 South State. We had a neighbor that was growing as fast as we were called Low Book Sales. They offered to buy our land and buildings at a fair price, so we sold and two options remained. Take the money and run or keep Car Concepts going.
Ryan Goeller (Rick’s son) had spent years at Car Concepts and wanted the chance to turn this business into a second generation family business. So after a fourteen month search we decided to buy three old buildings in downtown Salt Lake City at 1130 South Main. We spent well over a half a million dollars to remodel this location, and turn it into a facility unlike one seen before in our industry. We also felt diversification would be a key. Of course we still sell sound! Alpine, Sony, Pioneer, JVC, JL Audio, Hertz, and Voxx. We also sell video brands like Rosen and Sony along with many other brands. Car Concepts also tints windows, and adds clear bras to protect your paint. As one of Katzkin’s largest dealers, we can turn cloth seats into leather. We details cars, boats, airplanes, etc. and we are actively pursuing a home electronic partner to give us the expertise to do the job properly. We are proud we’ve been named in the top 50 dealers in America, the top 12 dealers in America, and also been given the honor of number 1 not just from various manufactures but also from the electronic industry. We sell safety, remote start, security systems, navigation, back up cameras, and feature America’s finest installation department. South of best customers also happen to work for us. Our employees have passion for what they sell.
