Car Concepts was founded in 1983 at 5235
South State Street in Murray Utah - however only the name
Car Concepts is 20 years old. In reality, the company is over
30 years old. President Rick Goeller had another company called
Soundtrack. The original store location was at 854 South State
Street.
Soundtrack started selling 4-Track tapes,
records, waterbeds in 1971. The company grew like a weed at
one time having 8 locations in Utah and Idaho. Soundtrack
sold not only car audio product but also home stereo - being
one of Utah's first Alpine and Pioneer dealers.
We brought Advent -
LaserVision - Bose to name a few to Utah
They sold Technics, Marantz and literally
thousands of weird gadgets called
turntables - receivers - rack systems - 8 track quad sound
- 45 records - Believe from San was big - JCL - Karhorns was
big (made by Klipish). These speakers were the size
of today's mini vans. Oh the sound - insane!
Soundtrack simply put, outgrew the expertise
of its ownership - Very common in the 70's and 80's. It truly
was Baptism by Fire.
No inventory control. No management experience
in running a large company. Soundtrack never did file bankruptcy,
however it took years to pay off it's debt. When Soundtrack
closed it's last location in 1984
- Car Concepts was born. After multiple locations,
Car Concepts went back to basics.
Our Mission Statement was simple:

- Five intelligent
employees in one location
The logic behind these thoughts - We thought
you had to have stores everywhere because the consumer would
not go out of their way to shop. The typical car stereo outlet
featured a small showroom, and one bay for installation. In
many cases across the country it is still the case.
According to numerous manufacturer reps and out of state visitors, Car Concepts is very unique. We only
have one store, yet that one store at 3405
South State Street sits on 2 1/2 acres, has 28 employees and
a separate building that contains its service and parts department.
Years ago it was a truck and van dealership.
During peak time it is not
unusual for Car Concepts to work on up to 60 vehicles - motorhomes
- boats a day. Even 18 wheelers find their way to 3405 South
State. Consumers come from, not only the entire state
of Utah, but Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming even California for our
expertise. Car Concepts does a percentage of it's business
in wholesale, car dealers, boats dealers and RV dealers. Trucking
companies comprise our wholesale base which now number almost
200 active accounts.
In 1991, 93,
94, 95 we were named Top 3 Retailer in the country. In 2005, we earned top honors as the #1 single store in the country!
Out of thousands of nationwide stores number 1. Right here in
Salt Lake City. We are very proud of our numerous industry
honors. This year is no exception Once again we are considered
among the best in the county. Why?
We love what we do.
We don't sell washers, CD's or furniture.
We understand sound, security, video and sunroofs...In other
words
We are 12 Volt Specialists.
